The brief

Where it started

By the time these clients called, their home was down to the studs. They had a playful, moody vision and plenty of ideas. What they needed was help bringing those ideas together and keeping decisions moving, at a stage when decision fatigue had set in.

The open kitchen is the first thing you see from the front door, so it had to bring mood and drama while belonging to the living and dining spaces around it. The compact bathroom wanted classic touches with a modern, playful edge. Each room needed its own personality, and both had to feel like the same home.

01Their ideas, one directionI shaped the ideas they’d gathered into one cohesive design direction, so every remaining decision had something clear to measure against.02A kitchen designed as part of the roomBecause it’s on show from the entry, the kitchen was designed with the whole open living space. Oak cabinetry, a marble waterfall island and warm wood pendants make it the focal point without fighting what surrounds it.03A small bath with a big personalityBotanical wallpaper, a pink vanity and patterned floor tile balance classic and playful, giving the bathroom its own identity within the same vision.
