The brief

Where it started

This main floor needed a layout that worked, not just new finishes. Before settling on a direction, I designed two complete kitchen options so my clients could compare them side by side and choose with confidence.

They chose the second option. The main floor bathroom was part of the same design.

The other option

The option we didn’t choose

Option one kept a galley kitchen. Seeing both side by side made the choice easy, and that’s the point of designing it first.

The decisions that made it work

4 decisions, and why I made them.

01Dining moves beside the living roomIn the chosen plan, dining sits next to the living room and the kitchen runs across the full rear of the house, giving each zone more room to work.02Soft curves, one connected spaceRounded edges carry through the plan, and the dining area is designed as part of the kitchen rather than a separate room, so the main floor reads as one.03The floor draws the lineThe edge of the original hardwood marks where one zone ends and the next begins, so the layout feels intentional without adding walls.04A calm, green bathroomSage tile, a rain shower and built-in wood niche shelving carry the same warm, natural palette into the bath.

Designed, ready to build

This is the plan my clients approved. They’ll build it on their own timeline, from drawings their contractor can price and build from.
